North Field Subdivision in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

North Field is an enclave of 11 custom-designed homes convenient to both Chapel Hill, Durham and Hillsborough from NC Highway 86. The parcel of land, known as the Johnston tract, a part of 1200 acres in colonial Orange County that was originally granted to the Johnston family by George II in 1756.  

6024 Old Field Drive, featured in the July issue of Metro Magazine, is a beautiful estate home and an architectural masterpiece. The home resides on an historic 16 acre parcel of land that has been continuously farmed since the 1700’s.

Working with designer David Kenoyer of KDK Design in Raleigh and landscape architect Tom Hunter, also of Raleigh, the Heffners set about to create a home that combines the best of modern energy-efficient building technology and the grace and charm of hand-crafted materials and construction. Jim Doran, a native of Ireland and master carpenter, was the job superintendent during construction for the approximately 7500 square foot-house.  The porches, a key design element for Old Field, add 1149 feet and expand the home’s outdoor living component to include a sweep of welcoming terrace on the front elevation and two distinctly different porches, one with an exterior fireplace, on the rear elevation.
